Your task is to explore the UK theatre market, including the London West End. There are a number of sources available via MetaLib that will give you information on theatres in the UK, including the following:
Global Business Browser
You will find a link to this database from the Marketing subject heading under the Market Research and Statistics category. You will need to collect one of the customer logins from the information page (i) next to the database title. Follow the login buttons and enter the details you have collected.
From the home page you will see a quick search box for industries . Enter the word theatre in this box and click to search. You will then be presented with a list of industy activities - click on the link to Motion Pictures and expand the Market Research Report list. You will find a Market Report called the UK Entertainment Industry - if you click on the PDF link it will open up the report. Read this report to find a useful website that you can also look at for this research.
Key Note
This database is also under Market Research and Statistics on MetaLib. You will need to login with your Athens details and then choose to search the database using the buttons provided. Many of these reports are locked, but if you scroll through the reports you will find a couple of useful ones relating to Leisure.
Note: if you prefer to look at a hard copy of Key Note, some of the leisure reports are available at the back of the 400-699 bookfloor.
Mintel
Under Market Research and Statistics, this database is another key resource for marketing students. Login with Athens and search for theatre using the search box provided. The main reports for your topic will be highlighted and you can also look through the additional news and articles that are provided.
ABI Global
This database is listed under the journals heading. ABI Global contains some practitioner journals and also the Financial Times newspaper, so you may find it helpful if you are looking for articles on London theatres. Access is via Athens.
LexisNexis
Although this is a legal database, you will also find the main newspapers on LexisNexis. Look for the News tab in MetaLib and click on the database title. Login with Athens and look for the news heading. There is a lot of information in the newspapers and not all of it will be relevant. You will need to choose your words carefully and find different ways to home in on your topic area.
